Town Hall Meeting On McClendon Land Sept. 29 At Saugatuck High School
A Town Hall meeting has been announced to share information on current efforts to expand Saugatuck Dunes State Park.
The meeting will be held on Monday, September 29 at 7 p.m. in the media center at Saugatuck High School at 401 Elizabeth Street in Saugatuck.
The Town Hall is hosted by the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance and will discuss recently announced efforts by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to purchase land owned by Aubrey McClendon. Michigan DNR Director Keith Creagh told MLive that the state is interested in exploring if the land can be preserved with a mix of public and private funds.
“There’s nothing more spectacular than the Lake Michigan shoreline through that dune area,” Creagh said.
Efforts to protect the land at the Kalamazoo River mouth span more than 60 years.
Information will be presented on how community members can make this long-term vision to expand the State Park a reality.
