Saugatuck Township Fire Department Receives $137,620 FEMA Grant For SCBAs
The Saugatuck Township Fire District, an Operation Save A Life department through WOTV, is pleased to announce receiving $137,620 from FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighter Grant program (AFG) to purchase 26 Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBA). Due to budget restrictions, the District could not afford to purchase these life safety devices without the assistance from the AFG grant program.
These new SCBAs will assist in meeting our mission statement by “protecting our most valuable asset….our personnel,” said Fire Chief Greg Janik.
These 26 life safety devices will replace our current obsolete SCBAs and are some of the most important pieces of personal protective equipment firefighters utilize.
Firefighters are unable to see all of the contaminates that can harm the respiratory system, which is why having current and compliant SCBAs is imperative to preventing harm to our personnel.
Please join us at the Saugatuck Township Fire District, 3342 Blue Star Highway on Friday May 20, 2016 at 2 p.m.
State Senator Tonya Schuitmaker and Congressman Fred Upton will be presenting Chief Janik and the Saugatuck Township Fire District the FEMA Assistance to Firefighter Grant award.
