SAUGATUCK PUBLIC SCHOOLS ELECTION OVERVIEW
The Saugatuck Public School system will be holding an election on May 7, 2013, with four ballot proposals for you to consider.
The first two proposals are required renewals of our annual millages:
* Operating Millage Renewal (5 Years)
* Community Recreation Renewal (5 Years)
The second two proposals would restore the 1 mill for facility and equipment purposes that expired in 2008:
* .5 Mill Building Site Sinking Fund (5 Years)
* .5 Mill Bus, Band, Technology and Security Bond (5 Years)
I want to make sure everyone is informed as to why we are holding this election.
To that end, we will be running short articles in The Local Observer, producing video clips explaining the ballot proposals, and posting detailed information on our website.
Videos will be released periodically before May 7 and may be viewed on The Local Observer (www.localobserver.com)and Saugatuck Public School (www.saugatuckps.com) website. Our website will also have more detailed ballot proposal information; just click the ‘election’ button on our homepage.
Our goal is to be sure that by the time May 7 rolls around, you have all of the information you need to be an informed voter.
Saugatuck Public Schools is one of the top performing small school districts in Michigan. Our test results are higher than ever, and our three schools have received numerous accolades for our successful programs.
We’ve been able to achieve these results despite the financial challenges facing Michigan public schools.
At SPS, our funding levels are back to what they were in 2001. Despite these cuts, we continue to plan for even more success in the years to come.
Our ballot proposals are an effort to stretch every dollar and continue to provide a positive ROI for our community.
Please look for articles and videos over the next couple of months about our important May 7 election. More information will be posted in The Local Observer, on the SPS website, and on our Facebook page.
