Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance To Host Public Reception To Announce Deam Family Lecture Series

On Friday, January 16, 2015 the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance (SDCA) will host a public reception to announce the Deam Family Lecture Series, named in honor of the Deams who for several generations have summered at the Old Saugatuck Lighthouse.
The Deam family’s long history with Oxbow, the lightness with which they live on the land at the Old Saugatuck Lighthouse, and the lengths to which they went to protect the Oxbow Peninsula from inappropriate development have inspired countless visitors and residents.
David Swan, president of the SDCA, remarked, “The Deam family is truly an inspiration and embodies the Saugatuck spirit many of us hope will endure for many generations to come.”
Attendees will also have an opportunity to participate in the initial phase of developing a 100-year vision for the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Region.
The reception will be held at the Felt Mansion in Laketown Township which is adjacent to the State Park’s entrance.      The event is from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will feature hors d’oeuvres, drinks and live music.
An update on Coastal Alliance plans for 2015 will also be presented.
Due to the special public spaces at the Felt Mansion, guests are urged to RSVP for this event by Monday, January 12 to Jon Helmrich at (269) 857-3574 or jhelmrich@earthlink.net.
Space is limited and admission is free.
