Retired Judge Sheridan's Home Burned To Ground; Wife Suffers Serious Burns

Retired Allegan County Judge Stephen Sheridan and his wife, Tanya, had only returned home from their winter stay in Florida for a few hours when disaster struck.

The couple had returned to their Saugatuck Township home about 6 p.m. Sunday and about 11 p.m. Tanya, a retired Fennville kindergarten teacher, was upstairs reading and her husband was downstairs working on an email when an alarm went off.

A raging fire had broken out. Stephen Sheridan managed to get out of the house without injuries, but his wife reportedly suffered severe burns to her feet and hands and was taken to the emergency room. She reportedly was transferred Monday to a Grand Rapids’ hospital for continued treatment.

The couple’s home and at least one automobile was completely destroyed by the fire. The residence was completely burned to the ground.

Firefighters managed to keep the blaze from spreading to a nearby home.

As of Monday evening, the cause of the blaze was not officially determined.
