Public Hearing On Singapore Dunes' Road/Utility Easement Request Aug. 26

     A public hearing will be held Monday, Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m. on a request by Singapore Dunes LLC for a road and utility easement to planned home sites on a portion of the 310 acres owned by developer Aubrey McClendon.
    The public hearing will be held at the Saugatuck High School’s auditorium at 401 Elizabeth Street.
    Singapore Dunes is seeking a permit from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to relocate, widen and extend an existing access road along with building utilities for the planned 19 single-family homes as part of its proposed Phase 1 development encompassing about 81 of the 310 acres of McClendon property.
    A decision is expected by the DEQ no later than November.
    If approved, the easement would also serve the developer’s Phase 2 development plans which calls for four multi-family condominiums and a marina on the former siste of Broward Marine factory along the Kalamazoo River.
    Those plans will be the subject of another public hearing - held by the Saugatuck Township Zoning Board of Appeals on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 5 p.m. at the Laketown Township Hall located at 4338 Beeline Road.
    According to the DEQ, the request being addressed on Monday calls for a 10,000-foot-long, 20-foot-wide access road that would impact about 8.1 acres with cut and fill on an additional 6.6 acres.
