Popular Lakeshore Community Chorus' 6th Annual "Holiday Reflections" Concert To Be Held Dec. 5th & 6th
The Lakeshore Community Chorus, with directors Tim Heck, Nancy Plantinga and accompanist Peter Black, will present its 6th Annual “Holiday Reflections” concert on Saturday, December 5 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 6th at 3 p.m. Both performances will take place at the First Congregational Church of Saugatuck.
Heck exclaimed, “We are excited to be performing our concert in a place that has such great acoustics. This gives the chorus an opportunity to sing and be heard in its natural state, without amplification.
“As a result, we are able to perform a wider range of literature and do more acapella (without accompaniment) singing.”
This year’s holiday concerts include unique and beautiful arrangements of many familiar and some unfamiliar holiday songs. Accompaniment instruments include piano, 4-handed piano, flute, side drum, tambourine, sleighbells, drum set and bass.
“The variety of instrumental timbres and vocal scorings creates a fun and versatile program for the singers and the audience”, said Heck. An instrumental jazz trio and a flute solo performed by Lauri Donaldson will also be part of the program.
The Lakeshore Community Chorus is an adult 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to the performance of varied choral music for the benefit, education, and enjoyment of its members and audiences from the surrounding lakeshore communities. Since its inception in 2010, the choir membership has grown to include 40+ enthusiastic singers from Covert to Grand Haven and Grand Rapids.
Performances have been given throughout the community, including performances at assisted living/nursing/retirement homes.
“The Holiday Reflections concerts have quickly become part of our lakeshore community’s holiday traditions. They have been consistently attended, with several sold out performances.
“Advance ticket purchase is encouraged…It is unlikely that tickets will be available the day of the concerts,” said Nancy.
Tickets for the “Holiday Reflections” concerts are $20 (Adult) and $5 (children 12 and under) and can be purchased on-line with a credit card by going to: lakeshorecommunitychorus.org.
Tickets can also be purchased in person with cash or check at Scooter’s Cafe in Saugatuck or Saugatuck Chiropractic Clinic.
Larry Sharp, president of the LCC Board of Directors, expressed, “The Lakeshore Community Chorus is excited to continue to grow as an integral part of the cultural tradition of the lakeshore communities, both as a musical outlet for choral members and musical enrichment for audience members.” As well as entertainment, the Lakeshore Community Chorus provides an introduction to choral music for the audience through two major concerts each year, in early summer and during the December holiday season.
During the last two years, the chorus has performed with other choruses which provides a broader experience for the audience and for the chorus members.
Most recently, the chorus performed at Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids sharing a program with the Sher Shalom Choir, West Michigan Gay Men’s Chorus and Fountain Street Church Choir.
This performance was a benefit for Heartside Ministries of Grand Rapids.
In addition to the annual holiday and summer concerts, the chorus has provided free outreach performances at nursing homes and retirement homes including Freedom Village, Resthaven /Warm Friends (Holland), Grace (Douglas) and the Veterans Home (Grand Rapids).
The chorus will once again be performing at Warm Friends this December and Freedom Village in June of 2016.
