New Sumptuous "Savor The Art Coast" Event To Replace "Taste Of Saugatuck"
The Saugatuck-Douglas Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) announced this week that “Taste of Saugatuck” a long-standing summer food festival, will be replaced by “Savor the Art Coast” a pop-up artisan food and craft beverage pairing event which will be held on August 30 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. at Wicks Park in downtown Saugatuck on the waterfront.
This Pair-affair will feature the area’s finest restaurants, breweries, wineries, cideries and food purveyors who will join forces to showcase the region’s culinary skills.
Visitors will sip, sample and savor the artisan foods and craft beverage pairings that define the culinary arts on The Art Coast of Michigan. Food critics from regional publications and Rachael Ruiz from WOOD TV8 have been invited to judge the most creative booths, best pairings and various culinary categories defined by event organizers. Ribbons will be displayed on the winning booths throughout the event. Plans are in process to live stream the festival from noon to 6 p.m. on www.saugatuck.com.
Confirmed craft beverage participants to date include: Saugatuck Brewing Co.; Fenn Valley Winery; Crane’s Hard Ciders; Virtue Cider; Latitude 42; Griffin Claw and Alaskan Brewing Co.
Participating restaurants and artisan food purveyors include: The Kirby; The White House; Lucy’s little Kitchen; Mermaid Bar & Grill; Crane’s Pie Pantry; Farm House Deli; Alley’s; Scooters; Wicks Park Bar & Grille; Respite; Coral Gables; Spectators Bar & Grill; Saugatuck Brewing Co. Pub; Back Alley Pizza; Kilwins: Saugatuck Tea Company; Pumpernickels Eatery; The Olive Mill and Uncommon Coffee Roasters.
Music will be provided by Rock Shop and Random Play compliments of senior event sponsor Liz Engel Century 21 Affiliated. Bring your own lawn chairs and dancing shoes!
CVB Executive Director Felicia Fairchild says, “The Visitors Bureau has redesigned this event to bring it more in line with our Art Coast brand. We want to put a spotlight on the culinary arts in this region.”
KIDS ZONE…Educational and entertaining culinary activities for children will include supervised cupcake decorating and jumbo cookie painting; sand-art design; marshmallow sculptures; and tea leaf reading for school children.
The Critter Barn from Zeeland will teach children how to milk goats and then let them taste artisan cheese made from goat’s milk.
A drawing featuring several “two night getaways” to the area will be conducted and promoted during the event and winners will be announced at 6 pm. Winners do not have to be present to win.
A portion of the profits from this event will be donated to support the Saugatuck Education Association and the Saugatuck Scholarship Foundation.
Remaining profits will be used to develop “Savor the Art Coast” into a major regional culinary event and to support area tourism needs on a project-by-project basis.
There is no entry fee to participate in this event. Tickets will be sold at the gates for the purchase of food and beverages in $1 increments. No tickets will be sold in advance. Plans are in process to provide credit card payments and access to an on-site mobile ATM machine from Chemical Bank.
