Saugatuck - A record crowd gathered to participate in the area’s newest craft beverage and artisan food festival - Savor The Art Coast - on August 30.
The event, which paired the area’s most innovative restaurants, breweries, wineries and cideries showcased the regions culinary skills. Rachael Ruiz Wood, TV talk show host, and Jason Kakabaker, owner of Cakabakery and winner of Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars”, teamed-up to judge the top entries in this year’s competition.
Top prize for best “Savory Entry” went to veteran chef & food-festival champion Chef Matt Balmer, owner of Lucy’s Little Kitchen, for his Memphis Style BBQ ribs.
Top Prize for “Best Pairing” went to Chef Chris Ferris, owner of Farm House Deli, for her petite BLT gougeres filled with fresh chevre, crisp Applewood bacon, heirloom tomatoes, pickled red onions and local organic greens paired with Griffin Claw Craft Beer.
Chef Renee Waddell, owner of Respite Coffee House, walked away with two blue ribbons. She received top award for ” The Most Attractive Booth” and top award for “Best Sweet” for her incredibly delicious lemon bars.
According to Felicia Fairchild, Saugatuck-Douglas Convention & Visitor’s Bureau executive director and event organizer, “All reports indicate that people really loved this event and it’s cutting-edge approach to highlighting the culinary arts here on the Art Coast of Michigan.
