From Fireworks To Parades To Terrific Bands To Great Eating, The Fennville Goose Festival Has Something For Everyone Oct. 7-9

    In the words of the director of the upcoming Fennville Goose Festival, Jodi Welscott, “I’m pretty excited this year to be able to get approval from the city for the fireworks that will be displayed on Saturday night, October 8. It has been added to our schedule of events along with all the other activities.”
          The committee for the success of the Goose Festival is as follows: Greg Crippin is responsible for the Tractor and Car Show; Laura Nichols for the Arts and Crafts Show; Amy Cook for the Beer Tent; Mark Schrock for the music and stage entertainment; the 5K run had co-chairs, Albert Lombard and Sonya Ouendag; the Fennville Fire Department and Fire Chief Sarah Zawila for the parade; Gosling Run, Lori Scut; History Exhibit, Claude Rummer; and Dan Rastall for the Elliot’s Amusements Carnival.
          “Tom Pantelleria, our mayor, will be our Grand Marshal this year,” says Jodi. “Margaret Sessions is coordinator of the Information Booth and Clean-up Committee.”
          Some of the food vendors that will take part in the festival are: Shawn Machan and his Mac Attack BBQ; San Felipe Church and their great tamales; Beachwood Inn with their Hillbilly Fry Wagon; and, of course, the usual carnival food.
          “Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m. on Saturday. Bring chairs,” says Jodi.
          The schedule is: Friday night from 6-10 p.m. the Beer Tent will be open, 5 -9 p.m. for food vendors, and at 6 p.m. the Los Bandits will play on the Main Stage.
          On Saturday: at 8:45 am there will be a VFW presentation on the Main Stage; 5K Run at 9 a.m.;  the Car Show and Arts and Crafts Show begin at 9 am. At 10 a.m. there will be the History Exhibit, Student Art Show Book Sale (at the library), food vendors, and the carnival begins.
        The Gosling Run starts at 11 a.m.; Beer Tent at noon; Gosling Run Awards at 12:15; 1-2 p.m. the outdoor Discovery Center Birds; car awards at 2:30 p.m. At 3 pm. the parade begins; at 4 p.m. the Fennville Public School Choir performs; at 6 p.m. Hired Hands Bluegrass Band; and at 9 p.m. the fireworks show starts.
        On Sunday: Most activities open at 11 a.m.; the  Beer Tent opens at noon; Steel City Rovers Irish Band at 1 -3 p.m.; at 2:30 p.m. will be the Tractor Parade; and  tractor show awards at 3 p.m.
       The festival sponsors are: Platinum – Chemical Bank, Golden Orchards Assisted Living, Kids Work Chicago, and the Kingsley House. Gold Sponsors – Fennville Chamber of Commerce and Pinnacle Foods. Many more businesses and organizations too numerous to list gave to the Goose Festival this year.
          “We have a great group of volunteers this year as in past years,” notes Jodi. “The volunteers make this festival a success. This year we raised a record amount of money from the sponsors. Thanks to all of you.”
       The 2016 Goose Festival will occur on October 7, 8, and 9. Come and get your fiesta on!
