Dune Ridge LLC Wants Saugatuck's OK To Build 14 More Homesites
Dune Ridge LLC SA is asking the City of Saugatuck to accept a consent judgment that would provide and approve it for a special land use, planned unit development and site plan at the former Presbyterian Camp property for continued development.
Dune Ridge wants to launch development of an additional 14 homesites on 30.1 acres located east and south of eight of its current lot sites fronting Lake Michigan.
The Saugatuck Planning Commission on Dec. 3, 2013, approved Dune Ridge’s request to develop those lake-front lots that sit on 22.7 acres.
A meeting is planned for Thursday (Feb. 5 at 4 p.m.) where city council representatives and their attorneys will meet to discuss the new request before making any decisions.
According to Saugatuck Planning Director Michael Clark, the owner/manager of Dune Ridge -Paulus Heule - is in the process of building private roads on the former camp property south of Perryman Street.
David Barker, who represents Dune Ridge locally, is also currently seeking approval from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for permits to build a private marina that could be used by future lot buyers. That plan calls for the construction of slips for nine boats and 10 personal watercraft.
The DEQ agreed in December to a Dune Ridge request to extend the time period for a decision on that request from Jan. 31 to July 31 to allow for negotiations between the city and the corporation to continue over the posssible purchase of land the city owns along the Kalamazoo River and also to try to secure easement agreements with landowners south of the proposed marina site.
Clark said no decision has yet been made about the sale of city land.
