Delectable & Delicious "Savor The Art Coast" Event Kicks Off Here Aug. 28th


      “Savor the Art Coast”, an artisan food and craft beverage event, will be held on August 28, 2016 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. at Wicks Park in downtown Saugatuck on the waterfront.
        This festival will feature the area’s most innovative restaurants, breweries, wineries, cideries and food purveyors who will showcase the region’s culinary skills.
        Visitors will sip, sample and savor the artisan foods and craft beverages that define the culinary arts on The Art Coast of Michigan.
        Ribbons will be awarded to booths based on various culinary categories. Winners will be announced at 1:45 p.m. by guest judge Rachael Ruiz WOOD TV 8 commentator who will be assisted by Jason Kakabaker, wwner of Cakabakery as seen on Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars.”
        Ribbons will be displayed at the winning booths for the duration of the event.
        Saugatuck Brewing Company will highlight a variety of their locally brewed craft beers. They will offer their own chef’s Cuban Brushetta, Caprese Salad skewer, and Serrano Red Pepper brownies.
        Chef Chris Ferris, owner of Farmhouse Deli, will be pairing Saugatuck Brewing Company’s craft beers with hop and honey smoked pork shoulder sliders on a pretzel bun with ginger peanut coleslaw; smoked grass fed ribeye tacos with guajillo salsa, sliced radishes, crema, avocado & organic greens; smoked portabella tacos with guajillo salsa, sliced radishes, avocado & organic greens; grilled watermelon salad with cucumber, mint, cilantro and lime, and an Artisan cheese & Charcuterie board with flatbread, pickles & olives.
        One of Saugatuck’s newest restaurants, Borrowed Time, has chosen to introduce their popular small plate Charcuterie including two meats, two cheeses, crackers, red pepper jam, seeded mustard, and two peppadews.
        Chef Mindy Trafman of the Kirby will be offering beef burger sliders and crab cakes.
        Another new restaurant to the Saugatuck area, GROW, will be offering carrot and lentil salad cabbage, capers & harissa; the “Mitten Salad”, pulled chicken, greens, dried fruit, pecans, pearled grains, local goat cheese & vinaigrette; their homemade lavendar lemonade; plus more to come!
        Fenn Valley Winery will be offering a wide range of their famous wines including Michigan Awesome Red, Michigan Awesome White, Michigan Awesome Cherry, and their Michigan Awesome Hard Ciders.
        In addition, Crane’s Pie Pantry and Restaurant will be providing flights of pie and their new hard-ciders!
        Uncommon Coffee Roasters will be providing cold brew coffee, nitro-infused cold brew coffee, and hot coffee (if it’s a cold day!).      Virtue Cider is offering their European-style cider.
        J. Petter Galleries will be offering fine artisan wine and cheeses from local creameries.
        Saugatuck’s newest restaurant - the Black Walnut - will be joining this year and offering spare ribs, spicy ramen in broth with flank steak, nicoise salad, chocolate mousse, and Palazzolo’s ice cream.
        Wicks Park Bar & Grille will serve their grilled mahi mahi fish tacos garnished with fresh slaw and key lime pie.
        Coral Gables is pulling out the grill to provide all American fresh grilled hamburgers, pulled pork, and homemade pizza!
        The Saugatuck Tea Company will feature its unique organic iced teas and bubble teas in a variety of custom blended flavors containing kid-pleasing bursting flavor pearls.
        Those with a sweet tooth will enjoy The Sweet Shop’s hand dipped caramel apples, chocolates, fudge, delicious caramel corn, and nuts.
         Music will be provided by Rock Shop and Random Play compliments of music sponsor Liz Engel, Realtor/Associate Broker, Century 21 Affiliated.
        These two well known bands are very popular throughout the region and specialize in 80’s retro rock….bring your own lawn chairs and dancing shoes!  
        A drawing featuring “Two night off-season getaways” to several of the area’s loveliest lodging establishments, including The Rosemont Inn and The Amble Inn, will be conducted and promoted during the event.  
        A Sommelier-guided cheese and wine tasting for six adults will also be offered by J. Paul’s at the Kirby as a third drawing.
       Winners will be announced at 6 p.m. Winners do not have to be present to win. A portion of the profits from this event will support the Saugatuck Scholarship Foundation, the Saugatuck High School PTA, and our local boy scout troop.

        There is no entry fee to participate in this event. Tickets will be sold at the gates for the purchase of food and beverages in $1 increments. No tickets will be sold in advance.
